Pitch Action, Heavy Lifting, & Culture: What Every Squad Did on Tour

Every rugby tour serves a distinct purpose. Whether it is an intensive warm-weather conditioning camp on the Mediterranean or a multi-city competitive expedition across the Emerald Isle, Irish Rugby Tours builds bespoke itineraries to match each club’s specific goals.

Here is exactly what each of the five squads got up to in Spain and Ireland during their Autumn 2026 tours.

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ The Spain Camps: High-Performance Pre-Season in Salou & Catalonia

For our three senior sides, Spain was all about physical preparation, high-intensity pitch work, and team bonding before launching into their domestic league campaigns.

1. Old Christians RFC (27โ€“30 August 2026)

  • Pitch Work: Hit the turf for intensive team runs and set-piece sharpening at the world-class Mediterranean Sports Hub.

  • Matchday Action: Travelled to Barcelona to play a competitive fixture against Rugby Sant Boi at the historic Estadi Baldiri Aleu.

  • Off the Pitch: Shared traditional post-match hospitality and drinks with their Spanish hosts at Sant Boi, followed by squad recovery and relaxation on the beaches of Salou.

2. Blackrock College RFC (2โ€“6 September 2026)

  • Pitch Work: Executed daily tactical field sessions and team pattern work on the hybrid pitches at Mediterranean Sports Hub.

  • Gym & Analysis: Completed heavy strength and power blocks at Valhalla Gym Club Salou, paired with video review sessions in dedicated resort meeting rooms.

  • Off the Pitch: Started mornings with team runs along the coastline and spent an entire afternoon team-bonding on the rollercoasters at PortAventura Theme Park.

3. Old Wesley RFC (3โ€“6 September 2026)

  • Pitch Work: Ran high-intensity conditioning and unit drills at Camp Rugbi Tarragona.

  • Gym Work: Pushed through dedicated strength and conditioning circuits at Valhalla Gym Club Salou.

  • Off the Pitch: Held alignment meetings for their upcoming AIL league season and spent downtime recovering on the Mediterranean coast.

โ˜˜๏ธ The Ireland Expeditions: Matchplay, Masterclasses, & Cultural Discovery

For our touring North American sides, Ireland delivered a full-spectrum rugby experienceโ€”combining matches against local clubs, professional coaching clinics, and cultural sightseeing.

4. Saint Albert RFC U18 Girls (23โ€“31 August 2026)

5. Stanford University Men & Women (9โ€“18 September 2026)

At Irish Rugby Tours, we’re passionate about showcasing the very best of Ireland to visitors from around the world. So, when Tourism Northern Ireland invited us to Belfast as representatives of Irish Rugby Tours for a familiarisation (FAM) trip during Fleadh Cheoil na hร‰ireann, we were honoured to be part of such a fantastic initiative.

We joined fellow tourism professionals from AC Group, Brack Tours, EI Travel, Horizons by Tour Partner Group, Kleemann Tours, Sheenco Travel and BEM Ireland on a carefully curated itinerary designed to highlight not only the Fleadh itself but also Belfast’s outstanding tourism offering.

What is the Fleadh Cheoil na hร‰ireann?

The Fleadh Cheoil na hร‰ireann is the world’s largest celebration of Irish traditional music, culture and language. Organised annually by Comhaltas Ceoltรณirรญ ร‰ireann, it attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors, musicians, dancers and performers from across Ireland and around the globe.

More than just a competition, the Fleadh is a celebration of Irish identity. Streets become stages, pubs overflow with traditional music sessions, and every corner of the host city comes alive with culture, storytelling and community spirit. It is one of Ireland’s most important cultural events and plays a vital role in preserving and promoting our musical heritage for future generations.

This year’s event in Belfast is expected to welcome over 800,000 visitors, supported by more than 1,000 volunteers, demonstrating the enormous impact the festival has on tourism, local businesses and communities.

Discovering Belfast Through Food

One of our first experiences was joining the excellent Taste & Tour Food Tour, beginning in the iconic St George’s Market.

Our guide introduced us to Belfast’s fascinating food heritage while we sampled some outstanding local produce and met passionate food producers. It was a wonderful way to experience the city beyond the usual tourist attractions and gain a real appreciation for Northern Ireland’s growing food scene. The itinerary included a guided exploration of St George’s Market before lunch at the renowned Mr Deane’s Bistro.

Exploring Belfast’s Musical Heritage

In the afternoon, we took part in the Belfast Music Walking Tour, which celebrated the city’s rich and diverse musical history.

From the famous Kelly’s Cellars and First Presbyterian Church on Rosemary Street to modern music venues, record shops, outdoor performance spaces and the city’s Victorian Music Hall, the tour showcased just how deeply music is woven into Belfast’s identity. We then had time to immerse ourselves in the incredible atmosphere surrounding the Fleadh, where traditional music filled every street and venue across the city.

Building Relationships Across Irish Tourism

A key part of the visit was connecting with fellow tour operators and tourism partners from across the island of Ireland.

The familiarisation trip was designed to strengthen strategic partnerships, engage key decision-makers and reinforce Northern Ireland’s position as a leading destination for leisure, cultural and business tourism. As tour operators, opportunities like these are invaluable in helping us discover new experiences that we can introduce to our international clients while building lasting relationships across the tourism industry.

The Tourism Northern Ireland Fleadh Brunch

The trip concluded with the Tourism Northern Ireland Fleadh Brunch at The Bullitt Hotel, bringing together tour operators, government representatives, tourism stakeholders and media for a morning celebrating Northern Ireland’s food, music and culture. The brunch also showcased the very best of Northern Ireland’s local produce before we returned to Dublin.

The event was attended by Economy Minister Dr Caoimhe Archibald, Ellvena Graham OBE FIoD, Chair of Tourism Northern Ireland, and Laura McCorry, Chief Executive of Tourism Northern Ireland. Their speeches highlighted the importance of hosting major events like the Fleadh and the significant economic and cultural benefits they bring to Belfast and Northern Ireland.

It was particularly encouraging to learn about the ยฃ1 million investment from the Department for the Economy to support this year’s Fleadh, reinforcing Northern Ireland’s commitment to growing cultural tourism and positioning the region as a destination of choice for visitors from across the world.

Looking Ahead

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Tourism Northern Ireland for inviting Irish Rugby Tours to be part of this memorable experience.

As a company that welcomes visitors from around the globe to experience Ireland through sport, culture and unforgettable travel experiences, trips like this are incredibly valuable. They allow us to continually expand our knowledge, strengthen industry partnerships and discover authentic experiences that can be incorporated into future itineraries.

The Fleadh Cheoil na hร‰ireann perfectly demonstrates what makes Ireland so special. It’s not simply a festival – it’s a celebration of community, heritage, music and hospitality. Experiencing Belfast during the Fleadh reminded us that while rugby may bring many visitors to our shores, it’s the people, culture and unique local experiences that create memories lasting long after the final whistle.

We look forward to bringing many more visitors to experience everything that Belfast and the island of Ireland have to offer.

Hemisphere rivalries reach boiling point as the worldโ€™s powerhouse rugby nations wrapped up an incredible weekend of Round Three action.

The intensity of the inaugural Nations Rugby Championship scaled new heights over the weekend. With the cross-hemisphere battle sitting at a perfectly balanced 9 wins apiece across 18 matches, every single point mattered. The North clawed onto 536 total points, while the South held a slight edge with 573 points, setting up a thrilling statistical dead-heat in the global standings.

From ruthless shutouts to high-scoring masterclasses on the road, Round Three delivered pure drama, showing exactly why this tournament has captured the rugby world’s imagination.

Round Three Results

Argentina 24โ€“31 England

England secured a massive statement win on the road, silencing a fierce home crowd in Argentina. Steve Borthwickโ€™s men showed incredible tactical discipline and composure under pressure, holding off a late Pumas fightback to secure an invaluable away victory for the Northern Hemisphere.

South Africa 43โ€“0 Wales

The reigning world champions put on an absolute clinic at home, completely shutting out a resilient but outmatched Welsh side. The Springboks’ suffocating defense and relentless physical dominance gave the visitors no room to breathe, keeping South Africa’s flawless tournament run firmly on track.

Fiji 17โ€“33 Scotland

Scotland weathered an early physical storm in Fiji to log an impressive away victory. The Scots used their structured set-piece and clinical finishing to gradually pull away from the hosts, ensuring the North kept pace in the overall hemisphere battle.

Australia 57โ€“10 Italy

The Wallabies bounced back in spectacular fashion, unleashing a blistering attacking display to completely dismantle Italy. Showcasing clinical counter-attacking rugby and lethal finishing, Australia put on a show for their home fans and injected massive momentum back into their campaign.

Japan 15โ€“42 France

France continued their fine attacking form with a dominant display in Japan. Les Bleus utilized their signature power game and creative flair to break through the Brave Blossoms’ defensive lines, controlling the tempo from start to finish to secure another crucial bonus-point win.

New Zealand 40โ€“21 Ireland

The All Blacks delivered a powerhouse performance in the weekend’s ultimate blockbuster clash in Auckland. Despite Ireland’s relentless work rate and clinical moments, New Zealand’s explosive counter-attacking and sheer physicality proved too much to handle, handing Andy Farrell’s men their first defeat of the campaign in a captivating encounter.

The Battle Intensifies

With three rounds officially in the books, the inaugural Nations Championship is proving to be everything rugby fans had hoped for. The global scoreboard couldn’t be tighter: 18 matches played, a dead-even 9-9 split between the North and the South, and razor-thin margins separating the world’s elite. Every single weekend continues to deliver world-class entertainment.

Whatโ€™s Next?

The competition shows no signs of slowing down, but teams now have a chance to regroup before the massive Northern Series and Finals phase kicks off.

For many young players, an international rugby tour is much more than a few matches in a different country. It’s an opportunity to develop as a player, grow as a person, and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Whether you’re travelling with a school team, rugby club or academy, stepping outside your comfort zone and experiencing rugby in a new environment provides valuable lessons that simply can’t be learned during weekly training sessions.

At Irish Rugby Tours, we’ve seen first-hand how rugby tours transform players both on and off the pitch. From building confidence to strengthening friendships, every tour leaves a lasting impact.

Building Stronger Team Bonds

One of the greatest benefits of a rugby tour is the opportunity to strengthen team relationships.

Travelling together means players spend time with teammates away from training and match days. Whether it’s sharing meals, exploring a new city, cheering each other on during fixtures or taking part in exciting activities, these shared experiences build trust and create friendships that often last well beyond the season.

Many coaches tell us that players return home with stronger communication, improved teamwork and a greater understanding of one another – all qualities that translate directly onto the rugby field.

Our mini rugby tours & camps are specifically designed to encourage teamwork, confidence and personal development alongside competitive rugby.

Developing Leadership Skills

Rugby tours encourage young players to become more independent and responsible.

Players learn to manage their time, look after their belongings, support teammates and represent their club or school with pride. Captains and senior players naturally develop leadership skills by helping younger teammates, making decisions and setting standards throughout the tour.

These experiences help players grow in confidence both in rugby and everyday life.

Learning Different Styles of Rugby

Every rugby nation has its own playing style and culture.

Playing against international opposition exposes teams to new tactics, faster decision-making and different approaches to the game. Coaches often return with fresh ideas, while players gain valuable experience that helps them become more adaptable and confident.

Whether you’re taking on clubs in France, experiencing the passion of Argentina, or enjoying the hospitality of South Africa, every match offers something new to learn.

Building Confidence Through New Experiences

Travelling abroad can be a big step for many young players.

From navigating airports to meeting new people and experiencing different cultures, every part of a rugby tour helps build confidence and independence.

For some, it may be their first time travelling without their family. By the end of the tour, players often return home with increased self-belief, greater resilience and the confidence to embrace new challenges.

Creating Lifelong Memories

Ask any rugby player about their favourite rugby memories, and chances are they’ll mention a tour.

It’s not always the results that stand out years later. It’s the moments shared with teammates – celebrating a hard-fought win, exploring famous landmarks, laughing on the coach journey or enjoying a meal with the opposition after the match.

These are the experiences that bring teams closer together and create friendships that last long after the final whistle.

Experiencing New Cultures

A rugby tour is also an educational journey.

Players have the chance to experience local traditions, food, history and culture while visiting some of the world’s most exciting destinations.

Imagine:

  • Walking through the streets of Buenos Aires before an evening fixture.
  • Visiting the Guinness Storehouse after a match in Dublin.
  • Watching the Haka in New Zealand.
  • Enjoying an Asado with local rugby clubs in Argentina.
  • Exploring the beaches of Australia after training.

These experiences broaden perspectives and encourage young people to appreciate different cultures around the world.

team bonding

Building Respect and Sportsmanship

One of rugby’s greatest values is respect.

Meeting players from different countries reminds young athletes that rugby is a global community built on friendship, discipline and mutual respect.

Sharing post-match meals, exchanging club gifts and learning about different rugby traditions all help reinforce the core values that make rugby unique.

These experiences often leave just as much of an impression as the matches themselves.

Memories Beyond the Rugby Pitch

While rugby is always the main focus, the best tours include experiences away from the game.

From climbing the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland and visiting the Eiffel Tower in France to exploring Cape Town or discovering Tokyo, these activities create unforgettable memories while giving players time to relax and bond as a group.

At Irish Rugby Tours, we carefully design itineraries that balance competitive rugby with sightseeing, cultural experiences and team-building activities.

Why Choose Irish Rugby Tours?

With decades of experience organising tours for schools, clubs and representative teams from around the world, we understand what makes a successful rugby tour.

Every itinerary is tailored to your team’s goals and can include:

Rugby is more than just a sport, it’s a way of life. Across the globe, every rugby nation has its own traditions, customs and rituals that make the game so special. Whether it’s the spine-tingling Haka performed by the All Blacks, sharing a post-match meal with your opponents in Argentina, or singing with supporters after a famous victory in Ireland, rugby has a unique ability to bring people together.

At Irish Rugby Tours, we’ve been fortunate to experience rugby culture in countries all over the world. Every destination offers something different, but they all share the same values of respect, friendship and sportsmanship.

Here’s a look at some of the world’s most iconic rugby traditions.

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช Ireland – The Warmest Welcome in Rugby

Irish rugby is built on community. From grassroots clubs to international stadiums, visitors are welcomed with open arms.

One of the most cherished traditions in Ireland is the post-match hospitality. After the final whistle, it’s common for both teams, coaches, parents and supporters to come together in the clubhouse to enjoy food, refreshments and conversation. Win or lose, rugby friendships often begin over a shared meal.

Whether you’re touring Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway or Belfast, you’ll quickly discover that Irish rugby clubs pride themselves on making visiting teams feel at home. If you’re planning your next Rugby Tour to Ireland, you’ll experience not only competitive fixtures but also the famous Irish hospitality that makes every tour unforgettable.

๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฟ New Zealand – The Legendary Haka

Perhaps no sporting tradition is more famous than the Haka.

Performed by the All Blacks before every international match, the Haka is a traditional Mฤori ceremonial dance that represents unity, strength, pride and respect. It is not intended to intimidate opponents but to honour New Zealand’s heritage while preparing mentally for the contest ahead.

Watching the Haka live is an unforgettable experience and one of the biggest reasons teams choose a Rugby Tour to New Zealand.

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ South Africa – The Braai

In South Africa, rugby and the Braai go hand in hand.

A Braai is much more than a barbecue – it’s a social gathering where family, friends, teammates and supporters come together to celebrate. Before and after matches, you’ll find supporters sharing steaks, boerewors sausages and traditional South African dishes while discussing the game.

Whether you’re watching the Springboks in Johannesburg or enjoying local club rugby in Cape Town, experiencing a Braai is an essential part of any rugby tour.

From Cape Town to Johannesburg, a Rugby Tour to South Africa combines world-class rugby with unforgettable scenery and incredible hospitality.

braai & asado

๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ท Argentina – Asado and Passion

Argentinian rugby is built around passion, family and tradition.

Following matches, many clubs gather for an Asado, Argentina’s famous barbecue. Large cuts of meat are slow-cooked over open flames while players from both teams share stories from the game.

Rugby clubs in Argentina are renowned for their hospitality, and visitors often leave with lifelong friendships alongside unforgettable memories on the pitch.

If you’re looking for something different, a Rugby Tour to Argentina offers passionate rugby, vibrant cities and one of the best sporting cultures in the world.

๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท France – Rugby Festivals and Third Half

France has a long-standing rugby tradition, particularly in the south of the country where rugby is deeply woven into everyday life.

After matches comes the famous “Troisiรจme Mi-Temps” or “Third Half” – the social celebration that takes place once the game has finished. Players and supporters gather to enjoy local food, music and conversation long into the evening.

Whether you’re visiting Toulouse, Bordeaux or Paris, rugby in France is as much about community as it is competition.

Experience one of Europe’s strongest rugby cultures on a Rugby Tour to France, where professional rugby, incredible food and unforgettable matchday atmospheres come together.

๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต Japan – Respect Above Everything

Japan has become one of rugby’s fastest-growing nations, and respect is at the heart of everything they do.

From the way players bow to officials and opponents to the impeccable behaviour of supporters after matches, Japanese rugby reflects the country’s culture of discipline and humility.

Visitors are often amazed to see fans staying behind after games to help clean the stadium – an inspiring tradition that has earned admiration around the world.

Japan has become one of rugby’s most exciting destinations, offering touring teams a unique blend of elite rugby, tradition and modern culture.

๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ Australia – Rugby by the Coast

Australia combines competitive rugby with a relaxed outdoor lifestyle.

It’s common for teams to enjoy beach recovery sessions, coastal walks or barbecues after matches. Cities such as Sydney and Brisbane offer world-class rugby alongside beautiful beaches, making Australia one of the most popular destinations for touring teams.

The Wallabies have a proud rugby history, and local clubs are always eager to welcome visiting sides from overseas.

Whether you’re watching the Wallabies or taking on local opposition, a Rugby Tour to Australia combines top-class rugby with iconic beaches and unforgettable experiences.

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น Italy – Rugby with Family at its Heart

Italian rugby is known for its welcoming atmosphere and strong sense of family.

Many clubs are run by generations of volunteers, and match days often bring together entire communities. Expect incredible local cuisine, passionate supporters and a relaxed atmosphere that allows touring teams to experience authentic Italian hospitality.

Northern Italy, particularly around Treviso and Parma, continues to produce some of Europe’s strongest rugby talent.

Looking for a balance of competitive rugby, culture and great food? A Rugby Tour to Italy is one of Europe’s most popular choices for schools and clubs alike.

More Than Just a Game

One thing becomes clear when travelling the rugby world, every country has its own traditions, but the values remain the same.

Respect. Friendship. Teamwork. Hospitality.
