Morwellham Folk Park

Morwellham is an award-winning attraction, it forms part of a World Heritage site featuring historic port, village, copper mine and railway.

Just four miles west of Tavistock, Morwellham borders the beautiful River Tamar.

Board the copper mine train, see the Tamar Valley which holds glorious views and then enter the George and Charlotte mine.

Once again workmen are showing their craft, rope makers, blacksmiths and potterers can all be seen working away on the estate.

But best of all is the brewery, here you can learn how to brew beer and most importantly you can taste it.

Wookey Hole Cave

West Wookey Hole

Wookey Hole Caves are a series of limestone caverns. This is a show cave and tourist attraction in the village of Wookey Hole.

Situated on the southern edge of the Mendip Hills near Wells in Somerset the River Axe flows through the cave.

Britain’s largest and most beautiful show caves maintain a constant temperature of 11 degrees centigrade all year round.   Having been used by humans for around 45,000 years, this is demonstrated by the discovery of tools from the Palaeolithic  period.  Also found were fossilised animal remains.

Evidence of Stone and Iron Age occupation continued into Roman Britain has also been found.

Like all caves the acoustics will be second to none.

Located just outside Exeter and is set in over 100 acres of countryside.

Stonehenge

Stonehenge is one of Englands top archaeological mysteries.

Dating back to around 3000 BC, but no one is entirely sure how the stones got there.

Would you believe that the stones were transported there by a system of ropes, sledges and rollers fashioned from tree trunks.

The stones weigh approximately 50 tonne and it would have required 600 people to move the stone.

UNESCO have added Stonehenge as a world heritage site and it is very easy to get to.

Pair the visit with a trip to the nearby city of Bath and you have the most wonderful day out.
