Paris of the North

Rugby Tours To Warsaw

Rugby Tours to Warsaw is the capital city in Poland.  Another new adventure being added to Irish Rugby Tours tour list of destinations to visit.

The metropolis stands on the Vistula River in east-central Poland.

Its population estimated at 1.780 million residents which makes Warsaw the 8th most-populous capital city in the European Union.

Warsaw is an alpha global city, a major international tourist destination, significant cultural, political and economic hub.

UNESCO made the Old Town a World Heritage Site.

Once described as the “Paris of the North“, Warsaw was believed to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world until World War II.

Bombed at the start of the German invasion in 1939, the city withstood a siege.  It was later awarded Poland’s highest military decoration for heroism.

Deportations of the Jewish population to concentration camps led to the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in 1943.

A general Warsaw Uprising between August and October 1944 led to even greater devastation.

Phoenix City was given to Warsaw as a tag because of its extensive history and complete reconstruction after World War II.

As it happens Warsaw is one of Europe’s most dynamic metropolitan cities.

Ranked as one of the most liveable cities in Central and Eastern Europe.

2012 the Economist Intelligence Unit ranked Warsaw as the 32nd most liveable city in the world.

Fountain Park - Rugby Tours To Warsaw, Irish Rugby Tours

Fountain Park

This tourist attraction was opened in May 2011.  This is part of the city’s ongoing attempt to increase its number of cultural and tourist attractions.

Happily, it has been met with widespread acclaim and approval.

Take the short walk north of the Old Town, the ‘Fountain Park‘ is a visual delight combining music and light.

Built on the site of a derelict concrete pond, the fountain cost over 11 million PLN to create.

Part of the plan is to revitalise this central Warsaw district by attracting visitors from the nearby tourist trail.

Perhaps most impressive is the remarkable clarity with which films are able to be projected onto the wall of water.

These multimedia shows have proved so popular.  Visitors are warned to stake out a position on the banked viewing terraces as early as possible.

Though crowded it may be, we thoroughly recommend you explore the experience.

Polish Army Museum

Museum of the Polish Army is a museum in Warsaw documenting the military aspects of the history of Poland.

It’s Warsaw’s second largest museum and the largest collection of military objects in Poland.

The collection illustrates a thousand years of Polish military history from the 10th century to the Second World War.

Ranging from the 10th century is Poland’s era of military greatness through the decline into anarchy in the 18th century.

Several rooms are devoted to Poland’s part in the Napoleonic Wars, and the national uprisings of 1830-31 and 1863.

By far the largest part of exhibition space is devoted to the 20th century, especially World War II.

This includes many world-class items from Ottoman Turkey, the Crimean Tatar Khanate, Mongolia and Japan.

The heavy weaponry is on display in the adjacent park and at the Fort Czerniakowsk.

The park surrounding the Museum is home to an open-air exhibition of heavy military equipment.

Presidential Palace - Rugby Tours To Warsaw, Irish Rugby Tours

Presidential Palace

The Presidential Palace is the elegant classicist latest version of a building that has stood on the Krakowskie Premises site since 1643.

Over the years, it has been rebuilt and remodelled many times.

For its first 175 years, the palace was the private property of several aristocratic families.

In 1791 it hosted the authors and advocates of the Constitution of May 3, 1791.

1818 the palace began its ongoing career as a governmental structure.

Following Poland’s resurrection after World War I, in 1918, the building was taken over by the newly reconstituted Polish authorities.

Construction of the present-day Presidential Palace in Warsaw was begun in 1643 by Crown Great Hetman Stanisław Koniecpolski.

It was said that he owned so much landed property that he could cross the breadth of the Commonwealth.

Palace was not completed in the Hetman’s lifetime, as he died unexpectedly in 1646.

Water Park

Poland may not be the hottest European country but when it comes to water parks, they have the bragging right.

Wodny Park is a popular water park from the capital.  Its sports leisure profile is appreciated not only by residents of Warsaw but also by people from other places.

It is the only place in Warsaw and one of few in the entire country which has an Olympic pool.

Diversely equipped leisure zone offers lots of attractions, both for children and seniors.

Sport facilities are not narrowed down to swimming pools.  The complex has its own squash courts, a bowling alley and a fitness park.

So, when in the capital bring your team for some fun and exercise.
