Rugby Tours to Pretoria is an old friend of Irish Rugby Tours.

Pretoria is the administrative capital of South Africa. It straddles the Apies River and has spread eastwards into the foothills of the Magaliesberg Mountains.

It’s one of the country’s three capital cities, serving as the seat of the administrative branch of government.

Named after the Voortrekker leader Andries Pretorius and within South Africa sometimes called the “Jacaranda City“.

This is due to the thousands of jacaranda trees planted in its streets, parks and gardens.

During the First Boer War, the city was besieged by Republican forces in December 1880 and March 1881.

The peace treaty which ended the war was signed in Pretoria on 3 August 1881 at the Pretoria Convention.

Rugby Franchise the Blue Bulls reside in the city. They play their games in the Super Rugby at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Many household names from the franchise have played for the national team.

Players such as Handre Pollard, Jesse Kriel and Adrain Strauss have all worn the Springbok shirt.

Melrose House

Melrose House is a stately mansion and museum located on Burgers Park in Pretoria.

Built in 1886 by the prosperous Pretoria businessman George Jesse Heys, it was named after the famous Melrose Abbey in Scotland.

During the Second Boer War the house gained fame. Lord Roberts requisitioned it as the headquarters for the British forces after Pretoria was invaded in June 1900.

For more than 18 months, instructions for the British forces in the field were issued from here.

The use of the house as a military headquarters ended when the Treaty of Vereeniging was signed in May 1902.

Today the elegant mansion is a historic house museum.

It is an example of the transition from Victorian to Edwardian architectural styles and interiors.

The sessions here in Pretoria are very good and a lot of teams comment on how good they are.

Of course it’s all down to the coach giving the session and the Bulls staff that do them are very good indeed.

Teams take on a lot what is taught to them and this is shown in their results when they get home.

Cedar Park

This park is an outdoor grassed area with beautiful views over the lake and at the foot of the Bronberg Mountain range. A peaceful country feel in a safe and secure environment.

Cedar Junction has a full mini scale 7,25 inch 1,2km train track with two trains. These are replicas of life size trains.

The trip takes you around the scenic park through tunnels and over bridges. Enjoy the views and the lovely country outdoors.

For Summer they offer 4 sets of swimming pools with 16 water slides – catering for young and old.

At the back of the park there is 3 x 100m speed slides.

In the front of the park is the lazy river with 3 slides. Under the roof you will find the indoor lazy river with 3 stop block slides for smaller children.

Other activities in the park is a trampoline, jungle gyms, roundabout’s, horse carousel, cup and saucer rides plus flying swings.
