Rugby Tours to Newport has been a long standing affair with Irish Rugby Tours.

It is a university and cathedral city in the south east of Wales.

Located on the River Usk not far from Cardiff and is Wales’s third largest city.

Newport has been a port since the medieval times when the first castle was built by the Normans.

In 2002 Newport became a city and hosted the Ryder Cup 2010.

As Newport is one of the four sides from Wales to compete in the Guinness Pro14 it has had some big names play for the club.

Players like Luke Charteris, Adam Jones and Percy Montgomery.

Former Irish Coach Declan Kidney coached before his Munster days and former Irish player Bernard Jackman was also in charge.

Caerleon Roman Baths

The Roman Baths Museum lies inside the fortress of Isca Augusta circa AD 43. The fortress itself was only one of three permanent legionary forts that was based in Roman Britain.

Like the most famous Roman baths in Bath, this too is worth the visit. Here you can see how the Romans changed Ancient Britain by bringing it into a new period.

The fortress was operational for over 200 years.

Medieval Ship Project

This 15th century ship was found in the muddy banks of the River Usk and will be ready to display sometime in 2018.

The ship was originally around 116 feet long and has been estimated to carry 161 tons. Historians know this because that’s how much wine it carried from France.

Vessels of this size were considered great ships by contemporary standards. They were typically used for the long-distance trade between Britain, Biscay and southern Iberia.

Remarkably restored by archaeologists and volunteers this is a gem to be seen.
