Gdansk is a Polish city on the Baltic coast.  With a population of 466,631, Gdansk is the capital and largest city of the Pomeranian Voivodeship.

Also, one of the most prominent cities within the cultural and geographical region of Kashubia.

It is Poland’s principal seaport and the centre of the country’s fourth-largest metropolitan area.

The city is located on the southern edge of Gdansk Bay mixing with the city of Gdynia, spa town of Sopot, and suburban communities.

Lying at the mouth of the Motława River Gdansk is connected to the Leniwka, a branch in the delta of the Vistula River.

Together with the nearby port of Gdynia, Gdansk is also a notable industrial centre.

In the late Middle Ages, it was an important seaport and shipbuilding town.

The first written record thought to refer to Gdansk is the vita of Saint Adalbert.

Written in 999, it describes how in 997 Saint Adalbert of Prague baptised the inhabitants of Urbs Gyddannyzc from the sea.

No further written sources exist for the 10th and 11th centuries.  Based on the date in Adalbert’s vita, the city celebrated its millennial anniversary in 1997.

Archaeological evidence for the origins of the town was retrieved mostly after World War II. The oldest seventeen settlement levels were dated to between 980 and 1308.

It is generally thought that Mieszko I erected a stronghold on the site in the 980s.  Traces of buildings and housing from 10th century have been found in archaeological excavations of the city.

Nearby Sopok holds the Bufab Rugby Amber Cup festival so another reason to visit Gdansk.

Stutthof Concentration Camp

Stutthof was a Nazi German concentration camp established in a secluded, wet, and wooded area.  Set up around existing structures after the invasion of Poland, it was used for the imprisonment of Polish leaders.  The actual barracks were built the following year by hundreds of prisoners.

Stutthof was the first Nazi concentration camp set up outside German borders in World War II, on 2 September 1939.

It was also the last camp liberated by the Allies on 9 May 1945.  Researchers estimated that between 63,000 and 65,000 prisoners of Stutthof concentration camp and its sub camps died.

This was from a result of murder, epidemics, extreme labour conditions, evacuations, and lack of medical help.  Some 28,000 of them were Jews.

In total, as many as 110,000 people were deported in the course of the camp’s existence.  About 24,600 were transferred from Stutthof to other locations.

The original camp (known as the old camp) was surrounded by the barbed-wire fence.   Comprising of eight barracks for the inmates and a Commandant for the SS guards, it totalled 120,000 people.

1943, the camp was enlarged, a new camp was constructed alongside the earlier one.  It too was also surrounded by electrified barbed-wire fence and contained thirty new barracks, raising the total area to 1.2 km.

A crematorium and gas chamber were added in 1943, just in time to start mass executions.  This was when Stutthof was included in the “Final Solution” in June 1944.

Mobile gas wagons were also used to complement the maximum capacity of the gas chamber, 150 people per execution when needed.

Pitstop Go Karting Centre

At the Pitstop karting Centre you have the option of both indoor and out door tracks.

Racing outdoors is even done after twilight.  They have lightening above the  circuit. A special treat not only for professionals.  The track also has the Tag Heuer timing system, this lets them create many variants of the races.

Indoors there is 400 meters of technical track configuration.  This helps team races on the highest professional level and gives you the extreme dose of adrenaline and emotions.
